01How does a love calculator by date of birth and name work?
It works out three numbers for each person and compares them in pairs. The mulank is the day of birth reduced to one digit, so someone born on the 19th has 1+9 = 10, then 1+0 = 1. The bhagyank is every digit of the full date added and reduced. With names, the name number adds the Chaldean value of every letter. Each number is ruled by a graha in ank jyotish (1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars), and each pair is read through the natural friendship of its two rulers. The calculator prints every step, so the whole reading can be checked by hand.
02What is numerology compatibility?
Numerology compatibility is the practice of reading two people's numbers against each other, on the idea that numbers ruled by friendly grahas describe temperaments that sit easily together. The numbers themselves come from two traditions. The mapping of 1 to 9 onto the nine grahas and their friendships is Indian, from ank jyotish, and the letter values used for names are Chaldean, a Western esoteric system named for Babylon. Applying either to a couple is a modern application: no classical text matches two people by their birth-day number. A numerology love calculator describes temperament in the tradition's terms. It is not a forecast of how a relationship goes.
03How is birth date numerology compatibility calculated?
Take each date of birth, reduce the day to get the mulank and the whole date to get the bhagyank, then compare like with like. A pair of numbers earns the Graha Maitri points of its two ruling grahas, the same points kundali matching uses: 5 when the rulers are friends both ways or the numbers are the same, 4 for friend and neutral, 3 for neutral both ways, 1 for friend and enemy, 0.5 for neutral and enemy, 0 for enemies both ways. Here, each pair's points are multiplied by its weight and divided by 5. With dates alone, mulank and bhagyank weigh 50 each; with both names they weigh 40 each and the name numbers 20. The total is the score.
04How do I read the numerology compatibility chart?
Find the first person's number, then read across to the second. The chart on this page gives every pair from 1 and 1 to 9 and 9 a word and a number: friendly for 4 or 5 Graha Maitri points, neutral for 3, contrary for 1 or less. The same number twice counts as full agreement. The chart is symmetric, so 7 and 3 read exactly as 3 and 7. Use it for any of the numbers: two mulanks, two bhagyanks, or two name numbers. Rahu and Ketu, which rule 4 and 7, are absent from the classical friendship table, so their rows follow the modern convention, and the chart flags that.
05Which numerology compatibility numbers are considered friendly?
By the friendship table, 1, 2, 3 and 9 form one friendly group, ruled by the Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Mars, and 4, 5, 6 and 8 form another, ruled by Rahu, Mercury, Venus and Saturn. 7, ruled by Ketu, reads as friendly with 6, 8 and 9. Pairs across the two groups tend to read neutral or contrary: 3 and 6, for example, score 0.5 of 5 because Jupiter and Venus are not friends. None of this makes one number better than another. Each digit carries a character, and the pairing describes how the tradition sees two characters together, nothing more. There is no evidence that matching numbers changes how a relationship goes.
06What is the numerology compatibility of 1 and 9?
Friendly, and fully so: 1 is ruled by the Sun and 9 by Mars, and each counts the other a friend, which earns 5 of 5 Graha Maitri points. The tradition reads the pair as two assertive numbers that respect each other, with the caution that both like to lead. The other pairs people ask about read differently. 3 and 4, 7 and 3 and 4 and 7 are neutral at 3 points; 4 and 6 is friendly at 5, because Rahu and Venus are counted friends; and 3 and 6 is contrary at 0.5. Each has a card above the chart with its reasoning.
07Can numerology compatibility decide a marriage?
No, and no honest reading of the tradition says it can. Numerology compatibility for marriage reads three numbers per person against a table of planetary friendships; it knows nothing about either person beyond their date of birth and their name. The classical Vedic way to match a couple is Kundli Milan, the ashtakoota system, which compares the two Moons by nakshatra and sign across eight kootas worth 36 points, and which needs birth times and places. Graha Maitri, the friendship score this page borrows, is one of those eight kootas. Use this calculator as a reading of numbers, and the matching report for the traditional match.
08Is numerology compatibility by name different from by date of birth?
Yes. Numerology compatibility by date of birth uses the mulank and bhagyank, which are fixed at birth and cannot change. Numerology compatibility by name uses the Chaldean total of the name each person goes by, which does change: a married surname, a nickname or a new spelling gives a different number. That is why this calculator weighs the name numbers at 20 of 100 and the birth-date numbers at 40 each, and why it compares names only when both are given. The Chaldean letter values are a Western esoteric system, named for Babylon, and are not part of ank jyotish. Try the names you actually use, and compare.
