What is VedicSense?
A small Indian company that believes Jyotish deserves the same rigour as any other science of time.
Jyotish began as astronomy: the observation of the sky, the reckoning of tithis and nakshatras, the calendar that fixed every festival. VedicSense builds the tools that do that reckoning precisely, in the open, for anyone who wants to look at their own chart.
What we do
Enter a date, time and place of birth and VedicSense returns the chart a careful astrologer would draw by hand, with the working visible: which ayanamsha, which house system, which convention for the nodes, and why. Beyond the birth chart there is the daily panchang for any city, the dasha timeline, the transits on your chart today, muhurat finders for marriage, housewarming and business, 36-guna matching, and a reference library of every rashi and nakshatra.
Why we built it
Two well-known sites would give two different charts for the same birth, and neither would say why. One used a different ayanamsha, the other a different house system, and both hid the choice. A person looking at their own kundli had no way to tell a calculation from a guess.
So we built the calculation engine first and the website second. Only when its numbers agreed with the references did we start writing pages. Every tool on the site is the same engine, run the same way, for everyone.
Our mission
To make precise Jyotish free and understandable for every Indian household. Precise, because a chart that is wrong by a degree can move a planet into the wrong house. Understandable, because a result you cannot follow is a result you cannot trust.

How are the calculations done and checked?
Three stages, the same for every tool: the sky at the moment, the classical rules applied to it, and a check against published references before anything ships.
-
The sky at your moment
The positions of the Sun, the Moon and the planets come from a modern planetary ephemeris, the kind of data astronomers use, worked out to the arc-second for your date, time and place.
-
The classical rules, stated
The sidereal zodiac and the Lahiri ayanamsha are applied, then the Parashari rules: whole-sign houses, Vimshottari dasha, the vargas, yogas and strengths. Where a method is not Parashari, such as KP, the page says so.
-
Checked before it ships
Every module is compared with published panchangs and classical worked examples before it goes live. Those checks are kept as automated tests, and they run again every time the engine changes.
The result is the same chart for the same birth, every time, on every page. When two sites disagree about a chart, it is almost always because of the ayanamsha or the house system. Ours are stated below so you can compare like with like.
Which conventions does VedicSense use?
The six choices that decide how a chart comes out, and the reason for each.
- Zodiac
Sidereal (nirayana)
Signs are measured against the fixed stars, as Jyotish has always measured them. The tropical zodiac of Western astrology now sits about 24 degrees away, which is why your Western sun sign often differs from your rashi.
- Ayanamsha
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha)
The value adopted by the Indian Calendar Reform Committee and used by the national panchang. It is what almost every Indian astrologer works with, so our positions agree with the almanac you already keep.
- Houses
Whole-sign bhavas
The sign holding the rising sign (lagna) is the whole first house, the next sign the second, and so on: the classical Parashari default. Bhava Chalit is shown alongside for readings that need house midpoints.
- Rahu and Ketu
Mean nodes by default
Mean Rahu and Ketu are what the common panchang prints. Every birth form has a setting to switch to the true nodes if your astrologer uses them.
- Sunrise
Upper edge of the Sun, with refraction
The sunrise almanacs and online panchangs show, so tithi at sunrise, Rahu Kaal and choghadiya windows agree with them. Birth-chart calculations that divide the day keep the classical sunrise, the Sun's centre on the true horizon.
- Birth time
Your city's own clock rules
A birth time is read with the time-zone rules in force in that city on that date, including past changes, before any position is worked out.
Where a method is not Vedic at all, such as KP, Tajika varshaphala or Chaldean numerology, its page says where it comes from and does not present it as older than it is.
What VedicSense will not do
Four lines we do not cross, whatever a page is about.
No prophecy
A dasha, a dosha or a transit is a classification under a traditional rule. We describe what the tradition says about it. We do not tell you what will happen to you.
No cure claims
We do not sell pujas, and we do not present any gemstone, bead or ritual as a cure for anything or as a promise of an outcome. The Disclaimer says this in full.
No hidden conventions
Every setting that changes a chart is stated on the page it changes, and summarised on this page, so two charts can be compared like with like.
No selling your data
Birth details are used for the calculation you asked for. Your data is never sold, nothing is shown to advertisers, and a saved birth is deleted the moment you delete it.
How VedicSense treats your birth details
Every calculator works without an account. The details you enter are used to calculate the page you asked for and are not written to a database.
If you open a free account and press Save, that birth is kept for you alone until you edit or delete it, and deleting the account removes everything at once. We do not sell data and we do not show advertising.

Questions about VedicSense
Short answers about the method, the accuracy and your data.
The best way to judge the method is your own chart. It takes a date, a time and a place.
Make my free KundliWhich ayanamsha does VedicSense use?
VedicSense uses the Lahiri ayanamsha, also called Chitrapaksha. It is the value adopted by the Indian government's Calendar Reform Committee and used by the national panchang, and it is what almost every Indian astrologer works with, so our positions agree with the panchang and the almanacs you already keep.
Which house system do you use?
Whole-sign houses, the classical Parashari default: the sign containing the lagna is the entire first house, the next sign the second, and so on. We also compute Bhava Chalit with Porphyry cusps, because some readings, particularly bhava strength, depend on where the house midpoints actually fall.
How accurate are the calculations?
Planetary positions are computed to arc-second accuracy, and sunrise and sunset are the ones almanacs show, the Sun's upper edge with refraction, so panchang timings agree with the calendars people compare them with. The birth-chart calculations that divide the day keep the classical sunrise. Every module is checked against published panchangs and classical worked examples before it ships, and those checks run again whenever the engine changes.
Do you store my birth details?
VedicSense stores a birth only when you save it to an account. A calculation uses the details you enter for that page and does not write them to a database. If you create a free account and press Save, the birth is kept for you alone until you edit or delete it. We never sell data or share birth details with advertisers.
Is VedicSense free to use?
Every calculator on VedicSense is free and works without an account. You can make a kundli, match two charts, read the daily panchang or find a muhurat without signing up. A free account only adds convenience: it keeps the births you save, so every tool opens already worked out for your family.
Save your family's kundlis in one place
Save each birth once. Every calculator then opens already worked out for you, your parents, your partner and your children.
