FAQ

## Daily muhurat FAQs

Short answers about today's windows, Choghadiya, Hora and Panchaka.

What are today's auspicious timings?

The reliably good windows in an ordinary day are Abhijit Muhurat around local noon, and the Amrit, Shubh and Labh Choghadiya. The windows to avoid are Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal and the Kaal and Rog Choghadiya. All of them are derived from your city's sunrise and sunset, so they differ between cities on the same date.

What is the difference between Choghadiya and Hora?

Both divide the day, but on different units. Choghadiya splits the daylight and the night into eight parts each, of about 90 minutes. Hora divides them into 24 planetary hours, one per graha in a fixed order beginning with the lord of the weekday at sunrise. Hora is used to pick an hour that suits a specific kind of work.

What is Panchaka and why does it matter?

Panchaka is a five-nakshatra span, from Dhanishtha's second half through Revati, during which five specific activities are traditionally avoided, including roofing a house, gathering fuel and travelling south. Panchaka Rahita simply means a window free of it, which is why muhurat tables list it separately.

What is the best time for puja today?

Abhijit Muhurat, the window around local noon, is the one most people use for a puja on an ordinary day, except on Wednesday. The Amrit, Shubh and Labh Choghadiya and the Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Moon horas are the other good windows. Keep clear of Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika, which this page lists for your city.
